Founded in 1947, the Grosse Pointe Theatre has a long tradition
in the area. In addition to approximately 50 performances each season, Grosse Pointe Theatre is involved in civic and charitable activities. It provides scholarships to local high school students and
members' children who plan to study in any area of the performing arts. Over the years, scholarships have totaled close to $40,000.
Local charities and eastside families and seniors benefit from the
hard work of the membership which raises money for those less fortunate. At holiday time, in addition to providing food and gifts for specific families, various charities are selected to
receive monetary gifts for their programs.
Membership in Grosse Pointe Theatre is open to anyone over 18 years of age with an interest in performing or technical theatre.
Casting is by open audition for all roles and those cast must become members.
Grosse Pointe Theatre enjoys a membership to 450 people of all
ages, from all walks of life and from all areas of the metropolitan area. The group receives no private or public grants to sustain its operation; its primary income comes from ticket sales. It is an
all-volunteer organization; no one receives a salary for his or her involvement.
